You have sign in sheets in the salon. Each diver is supposed to include their cert.# and number of dives. This doesn't always help, as a diver with 500 dives in warm water resorts would be better off not trying a dive like Farnsworth. During the pre-dive briefing the DM should stress the inherent dangers of the dive site and let the divers decide for themselves if they are qualified. I hate to see DMs at resorts escorting a group of new divers down a wall to 130+ feet. The same goes for a DM that would not allow someone to make a dive they feel qualified to make, simply because the DM thinks it's too deep, scary or whatever. Diving has risks, and it is up to each individual diver to decide if the dive is beyond their comfort zone.
