Whether or not you show a Jr OWD card or a DM card will do absolutely nothing to fix responsibility where it belongs. There's no real question whether the attorney would sue an actual bystander RATHER THAN the actual DM. The chance that happening is slightly less than the chance of you being hit by a stray meteor while watching the rescue from the boat.

Unless there is some connection between you and the injured diver, you owe no legal duty to get involved. Just being on the same boat doesn't do it.

BTW, did you happen to consider that if you buddied up with a new diver, you would have a ready-made excuse: You couldn't get involved with the rescue because you had to stay with your dive buddy?
