Brain Lesions and Memory Loss were the first component but many of the studies also in further readings show the **undetected** atleast immediate effects of scuba diving. The damaging bubbles are in most cases nitrogen and as such can be deemed 'subclinical' in the respect that they are not immediately detectable (outside of MRI etc). My point is that this is commentary on an often overlooked long term effect of 'subclinical DCS'> or the 'i didn't go to the chamber today so everything must be ok and will be ok' mentality. I have some stuff on subclinical DCS like I believe you are thinking of, but most is hardcopy and the best I can do is give you the references when I can get around to digging it out.
