The great thing about kids is that they are fearless. They also learn the skill(s) pretty well, and are no more likely to panic in a bad situation than you are. In fact, they probably learn the skills better than most adults. I believe diving is far less dangerous than you like to pretend. Children drop dead playing football and running track. I knew a guy who's kid got killed playing softball. Softball!
