How 'bout this. We take these newbies and make them carry a complete redundant system with them. Since it is hard to carry, we will have another diver carry it and accompany the newbie underwater. In fact we can have this other diver help to monitor the newbie's air consumption and prevent he need of using the spare set of gear he is wearing!
