Demand hats have the oral-nasal cup that keeps the CO2 buildup to a minimum.
You wouldn't want to use a freeflow hat on low flow (Desco beanpot comes to mind) for deeper work.
Never had a problem getting all the air I wanted with a demand hat at 90 psi, freeflow was another story, though I suspect icing might've played a part. Freeflow hats tend to ice up easier than demand hats under the same conditions.
