What you are actually talking about learning is not a bad thing. In my opinion it would take to long for a beginning open water student. It takes a lot of practice and I think thats what instructors would hope for the student. Unfortunately you have drop out rates and such and the practicality issues. It would be nice to see better buoyancy control actualy taught. It would be nice to see lots of different things occur. Reality as such things are the way they are.
