As a diving instructor I have encountered this problem with a few divers who bite down hard on their regulators. These divers seem to pull a large portion of the mouthpiece into thier mouth as they bite. Try easing your bite on your regulator. As diving should be a relaxing sport, this may also improve your enjoyment.
