Actually my wife has a long history of seamanship, having grown up in a sailing family and later, as a young adult, taking passengers around the Mediterranean on a sailboat for a couple of years. Having been there, she's decidedly unthrilled about the prospect of boat ownership at this point in life.
I'm sure the goby-watching sounds a little lame, but I thought it wasn't a bad way of minding a 7-year-old building drip castles while logging some fish ID time ...
