Boat dives are good, but a little more than shore diving. Check out the boats at http://californiadiveboats.com/

I do the Spectre on Fridays. They hold 40 divers, but generaly on weekdays its only about half full.
for 63.00 you get three dives, airfills and a good lunch, BBQ chicken, or a veggie burger if you perfer. They go to Anacapa, and the dives are normaly at the novice level, and vis is usualy good. Lots of sealions and seals, wonderful diving. Shore diving is an option, Shaws Cove, Deer Creek and others, but I don't like surf enteries or sand in my shorts.
