DO you drive a Porsche? some will argue you shoudl because it has such high performance and great braking and cornering. Braking and cornering can make the difference is preventing crashes. So why not buy the Porsche and not that piece of junk substandard vehicle? That is your argument on regulators!
The lower cost units are not junk. They are suitable for the use for which they are sold. Just because a unit tests better on a test that is not representative of an intended use, does not mean the unit is not satisfactory. Passing the Navy's test is important if a unit is to be used by the Navy for its intended range of use. But the some of their tests are more stringent than needed for a determining usefulness for a recreational diver doing recreational dives.
