For overflow RV and tent camping, people can try the camp ground at Albion:

It's not pretty and not the best site to launch a boat (we saw a couple of boats bottom out trying to get out last month), but it is 5 minutes or so from Van Damme and not expensive. Basically, its a big lawn with facicities, not the cleanest or the worst that I've seen. My friends and I use it for group trips since it let's us all take over a large area together.

The weather on the coast up here can be dramatically cooler than just a bit further inland, especially at night. Even when it's triple digits in Santa Rosa (God help me, I don't have A/C since such heat is very unusual!), the coast can have highs 30 to 40 F cooler. At night, coastal temps can still get down into the 50's or even 40's. So bring along a jacket and long pants for the night time. I saw more than a few surprised and uncomfortably cold people up there a few weeks ago.
