Area is not exactly precise either - you can have shapes with same capacity and different area (cube vs ball for example). But I guess for humans difference doesn't really matter. How would you measure human area anyway? I suppose some initial chopping would be required.
Aghrr.. Just throw him in a pool and had him remove 2 lbs at the time :).
