Each days take of 300 lobsters at 1.5# apiece sold at market at $13/# move $5850/day through the economy at the retail level. The seller pays an income tax on this after subtracting expenses. The consumer if purchasing at a restaurant also pays a sales tax that goes to the government. This may vary by state.

But assume the sellers make 10% profit and pay an effective rate of 25% for all taxes, say $14.62/day. Ignore the consumer's tax if bought at a restaurant. The commercial season this year runs from Oct 2, 2002 to March 19, 2003, say 169 days. Assuming a trapper is 100% productive then there is another $2471 put into the governments till.

When you have a lobster feast with family and friends do you share with the government?

Maybe it would be different if you invited some politicians to the party, or contributed... or contributed MORE to their campaign.

How much does a photograph of a lobster contribute to the government? Ignore the cost of the camera etc. as the cost of a boat and fuel to get the lobster where not included in the above example.
