Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you were bashing Rodale's. As you know, I've been active on that board for about 5 years now. It certainly is everything you described, both good and bad. The good parts are the diversity and activity, which can also be detrimental in an unmoderated format as things do tend to get messy at times. The BS got so thick I took about a year sabatical, myself. Seems to have calmed down lately and, for the most part, is a friendly and informative (if not always dive-related) community.

I'm relatively new to this board, but so far, I think it's a valid and relevant place to discuss California diving issues.

I do think that some form of user identification would be helpful to establish the general credibility of the poster.
