And practice is most of what you need.
Try different methods. See what works for you.
Chucks point about turning sideways helps.
You don't like waves hitting you. Well hit them back. Hit them first. If you hit hard enough, not
only will they not push you back, but you can move forward without the wave being able to grab at you. Besides, it makes a very satisfying splash.
Try laying down in fairly shallow water and practice going under waves. Ride the surge out and dig a few fingers in the sand when it goes against you.
If you want to learn beach entries, it's not all about what you know. It's actually more about what your body knows. Play in the surf and bodysurf, to teach your body to respond to the wave. The energy of a wave is in a circle. Your body learns to feel the energy of the wave and automatically takes the shape that will not absorb energy from that circle.
You can actually stand right in front of a fair sized wave and bend slightly forward. That is the opposite shape of the wave and it will have a hard time moving you much. Done properly, it will press you onto the bottom.
What works best, is what works for you.
You've asked enough and gotten enough good advice that all I can add
is - Go Dive
Enjoy the diving, seahunt
