Let me tell you a little story about "sonar:" Long long ago in a galaxy far far away an oil exploration company was required to stop exploration using their low power state of the art "sonar" set, because it was so "damaging" to whales and dolphins. At the same time, a group of grad students were completing a project to map an undersea trench in the same area, using years old technology with about 500 times the impulse of the oil guys. They mowed the lawn banging away for days on end and no-one said boo.
Point? That most of these folks have a major political agenda, and pretending to care about the environment merely helps further their cause. Be careful, if you stop heading west your head may explode.
