Dive flags are not required in Cali.

On the East Coast and the Gulf Coast and at Eastern lakes, the dive flags normally ARE required on floats.

Of course, a boat speeding along probably isnt going to notice the dive flag anyway. But that way, in your negligence lawsuit, for pain and suffering, at least you can show the judge and jury that you did everything you could to avert the run-in.

I always use a dive flag on my own float, and its funny that it helps me spot my float in a sea of others since no one else uses a dive flag around here in Cali.

I will agree that the West Coast is the Best Coast and the East Coast is the Least Coast. There are some things they do back East that we could learn from out here in scuba and freediving however.

I hope the freediver-victim recovers all right.
