One of the guys at work is in the reserves with the guy that got run over.
Only 1 diver was run over. The other managed to keep himself underwater.
The guy is in stable but still serious condition. Heard he was starting to
talk and move a little.
None of this is confirmed yet. I'll probbaly hear more details tomorrow.
They were supposedly diving inside edge of the kelp around La Jolla. They
had a bouy or some type of marker device. Not sure if it had a flag. The
Boat reportedly was travelling at high speed. A Scarab type boat. The other
diver waved the boat down which came back and picked up both divers and
brought them into the harbor. The hit diver has severe head and body
injuries.
The diver is in his 20's and one outside report said he was being taught to
freedive by the other guy. They were quite a ways from shore (At La jolla
it's possible to be relatively far from shore and still on the inside edge
of the kelp) - having the boat pick them up might have saved his life.
