This is a subjective issue on what one feels. The gauge issue seems to be common. My personal feeling on this feeling of something being wrong or impending doom, I think is phsycological. As one goes deeper and deeper over time and increases their bottom time at these depths, these issues subside and those type of feelings disipate. Saying the feeling goes away when you go shallow is like saying I get scared locked in a dark room but when I step out into the light I feel better. Some people misinterprate feelings sometimes and attribute them to narcosis. This is not always the case, but the majority of the time, I think it is.
