Brad, I see squid and other seafood products on nearly every restaurants menu so you seem to be distorting who the beneficiaries really are. Many of our own local restaurants and hungry people throughout California and the United States are the primary beneficiaries. If we have excess why not export to help out our friends oversea after all we are the fat cat Amercans would is one of the major contributors that feeds the world. We are known as the worlds bread basket why not seafood also. We CANNOT just think of ourself. Only a very small percentage of the population has the ability or desire to go fishing on their own and they are dependent on the commercial guys for the supply. We need to become inventive and construct ways to increase the take many fold to meet the future demands while building a solid breeding stock of not only squid but all of the delicious speecies. No other country has the resources or ability to lead the way as we Americans do. Closing areas and shutting things down is the wrong way to go! Finfan does have some interesting ideas about breeding and hatching. I don't care if you clone breeding stock but closing and policing isn't going to get us and the world fed. YMMV
