Basically I think I read the question differently. Before going that far from shore, I suspect that the boat was goign to have a chart or two. Probably a compass and GPS, also. I read the request as more of a "where to dive" rather than a "where is the bank hidden under all that water".

Some people ask me where I like to dive and I say Palos Verdes. If they say where?, I assume they want a detailed description of where I might anchor as I assume they can find PV.

Actually your answer was the kind of answer I think he was expecting. Told the proper cautionary stuff, and a reference location (red bell). All this boat talk just makes me sad as mine is waiting for an major overhaul before it leaves the harbor. Whimper whimper. After all BOAT really stands for Break Out Another Thousand.
