As some of you may or may not know, the Ventura County Commerical Fisherman Assoc. filed a lawsuit in December against Fish and Game to stop the implimentation of the Marine Protected Areas that went into effect January 1st. While the lawsuit includes a lot of accusations you would expect - claims of "flawed" science and failure to properly include commerical fishermen in the planning process - it has one whopper in there too.
According to the lawsuit, Fish and Game "...violated the California Environmental Quality Act, which requires a proper assessment of the environmental impact of new government regulations."
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the California Environmental Quality Act designed to identify the NEGATIVE impacts of new regulations? What's VCCFA's beef, that more fish will pollute the ocean?
I've included a link below that includes more details about the lawsuit, what it contains and who is joining the suit. Check it out.
