Chris:

One way to encourage responsible spearfishing is by encouraging divers to learn how to recognize and identify the fish in our local environment. Every year, there are a series of lectures that teach a diver how to identify fish species, and for the most part, these lectures are FREE. I will be giving a GAFC (Great Annual Fish Count) Fish Identification lecture at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on Saturday June 28, with registration starting at 12 noon. You only have to pay for parking. After the lecture, we will tour the Cabrillo Aquarium and practice our Fish ID skills. More info will soon be posted at the Greater Los Angeles Council of Divers web page at www.glacd.org, or stop by our booth at the upcoming Scuba 2003 show in Long Beach.
There are many Fish ID lectures in California, just go to www.gafc.org to learn more.
