This location is often used for beginner check-out dives. It is a protected cove, along with a gently sloping sand entry.

This allows for a relatively easy entry and exit. From the main beach, there isn't much to look at (at least most of the time that I've dove there), unless you swim WAY out. The water remains shallow for quite a while, with a sandy bottom (this is why the surf is gentle). I've seen some crabs, and the occasional Halibut in the sand, along with a expansive sand doller bed.

Better diving can be had if you are willing to swim out, and to the west, but again, there are MUCH better choices (IMHO).
