Yes, Ken, it's VERY disconcerting for two main reasons, IMHO: one, it's proponents tend to be obsessed zealots, belittleing anyone who questions their principles and practices. They promote through intimidation and ridicule. And, two, they're trapped in their total inflexibility to adjust and/or modify their system to different diving conditions and environments. They call it Hogarthian and holistic; absolute total adherence. The extreme advocates of DIR/GUE for ALL diving have a strong kinship with the Afghan Taliban. Best advice is take from the system what works for you and disregard the rest.
