Yea, my hull is a planning one too, but I am not an expert on water & pressure waves(amoung many other topics), so I am just making an educated guess. I would think even a planning hull would create a small wave since there is still some hull displacing water.
They are amazing creatures. I can watch them for as long as they stay around, if we could only truly communicate with them. What they could share.
I also had one "drafting" behind a sailboat I was delivering on the ICW in Florida. It would kick it's tail only so often and glide along or "draft" behind me. It was with me for about 45 minutes.
