I've never heard anything about the Dn'DII. I've taken the Lois Ann to wreck alley a few times. They are a good boat, and a good operation. Have the kids ever done any blue water dives? The Ruby E and Yukon can be very surgey, strong currents, low vis, and very cold. If you're not experienced diving in open water in those conditions, I would opt for a kelp dive off Point Loma especially considering that the kids are new divers.

A better option would be to take a boat out of Long Beach. BottomScratcher and the Great Escape are who I would recommend. You go to Catalina for the day, and diving there is generally better in regard to vis and options. Cap't Greg of the BottomScratcher and Cap't Tim of the Great Escape are first rate, and have a very good reputation. You mention half day, none of the boats out of Long Beach (or north of LB) do half days.

Good luck, and dive safe:-)
