It sounds nice. Were you diving in front of the hotel row there or is that the large white covered rock? That's pretty good vis for there, but it is still winter.
Gaviota and Refugio are OK, but another spot to consider is called City College. In Santa Barbara, about a mile or so just north of the Harbor where the Truth Boats are docked a headland rises. Off of there is a large kelp bed with excellent diving and a very complicated reef. It would be good for a kayak. Try it. You'll like it.
