You are not alone with the sticker shock. F&G choose this as a method to increase revenues to make up for the state budget deficit.
I have mixed feelings about it. If a larger percentage of the funds from this would go toward ocean enhancment and enforcment I would be much happier with it, but alas it only goes toward the overall budget for F&G.
I have been fresh water fishing three times in my life, thus I see no need to support it.
