Good points seahunt, but I did talk to a diver from Sonoma county who knows the Warden in the picture. The Warden's name is Gary Coombs. According to my friend, Warden Coombs indicated that about 90 percent of the abs WERE indeed cut. Apparently the poachers were in such a hurry to collect the reds and get out of the area, that they did not care about the condition. If they are kept cold enough, the quality of the abs by the time they get down to Mex should still be good enough for 50 bucks each.
It is ashame though. I would have at least liked to see them put the abs back in the water- cut or not. Even if just one of them managed to survive and reattach itself, it would be worth it. If they died off, then the bodies would get eaten up by all the crabs or other scavenger fish. Oh well, at least some homeless guy got a nice ab dinner.
