Pick your politicians more carefully - and do some grassroots organizing, and run for office yourself.
Zero by-catch nets are a pipe dream....nets are not smart enough for that. Fisheries management on the scale we currently muster military would have an effect, though.
We could do a hell of a lot more on this planet, and in space, but until a visionary leader makes it into power it's going to be politics as usual.
