I'm not a coral expert, but I think that the only true coral that we have near LA is the Brown Cup Coral which is usually found as isolated coral buds. We also have Encrusting Hydrocoral that grows over existing rocks. Normally anything growing in clusters here is a species of anemone. I think that most coral is temperature dependent and the water here just isn't warm enough.
