I’ve dove the Manhattan Beach Pier several times, but never the Hermosa Beach pier. The life on the MB pier pilings is quite interesting, as well as in the sand and rock piles beyond the end of the pier. It is only 12 to 15 feet deep at the end of the pier so only consider it on a very flat day, and preferably near high tide. The life in the sand beyond the pier is impressive, but not as lush as El Porto, which has the biggest sand dollar beds I have ever seen. If you dive the MB pier, enter and exit on the North side since it is a designated no surfing zone and you won’t need to worry about surfboards running you over, just a few crazed boogie boarders.
