The picture is my girlfreind Kathryn and myself. I only dive with an octopus when I dive with her, since other than that I usually dive alone and omit the octopus.
The necklace is a practice (like most that they claim as theirs) that predates DIR. I first used the neclace for the octopus in 1992 when I took a IANTD Deep Air class.
It works especially well with Posiedon regulators since they feed from either side and I like to feed the ocotpus from the left. It is not a common practice, but it works well for me.
I recently converted Kathryn to using a necklace as well when she got her Posiedon Cyclon regulator. She likes it much better than her old octopus that seemed to get loose and in the way sometimes.
