Pipefish at Redondo

My wife and I dove Redondo Saturday evening and encountered a pipefish on the sandy bottom in about 40' of water. This is the first pipefish I've seen in So Cal (of course, we didn't have a camera). Is this common or unusual?

Vis was OK, about 15 feet with LOTS of biolumenescence.
