Take a look at the uw park and see how catalina looked 25 years ago, all of front side looked like the uw park! have spear fisherman done some damage? they sure have, and they continue to. Hunters with polespears and small guns (sold to them by stores that only care about profit) shooting everything insight. Baby sheepheads, little calico, blue rock fish, any thing that moves is shot at. The fish and game doesn't care, they only want to give you a ticket (it's called job justication), the charter boats don't care, they only want to fill there charters, the store don't care they only want a profit. and the beat go's on or should we say the slaughter. 22nd streets fish count form last weekend 70 whitefish, 46 sheephead, 292 halfmoon, 112 calico bass 245 bonito 158 rockfish Think about it almost a thousand fish killed in one weekend at one sports landing. the slaughter just go's on and on does spearfishing make a difference, it sure does, along with the sports charters, and the commerical boats it all eats away at a resource that is clearly stressed. and no one cares, we only seem care about our own self interest, we only show concern when the resouce is totally depleted, and then we point fingers as to who is to blame (but it is never us). we are trully pitiful. this community is small enough to do something about this, to show leadership, to make a small the sacrifice of not hunting to give the areas that we dive in a chance to renew. but will we? or are we trully pitiful.
