Is it just a few fanatic individuals making comments along the lines of “let’s ban all spearfishing” or is that a general attitude in our diving community that spearfishermen are an evil gang?
I am not going to repeat all the reasons why spearfishing is the least harmful method (compared to bottom trawling, net fishing, rod fishing, etc) and that most spearfishermen vigorously follow all the laws and regulations (and there are quite a few of them) and only take what is legal and abundant.
If you are a tree-hugging, organic eating vegetarian, than that’s one story. However those who make comments seeing me coming out with fresh dinner from OUR ocean (my favorite one being “leave some fish in the ocean for us to see”), did you ever fully consider how ungrouned and hypocritical your remarks are?
