Fishing for dinner? If you figure the cost of the boat trip, air, etc., scuba spearfishing or even recreational fishing for that matter doesn't pay for the trip. Much cheaper to go to the local fish market or Trader Joe's.

My gripe is mainly with those who spear easy prey. Not very macho to spear a sheepshead and thanks to thoughtless spearkillers, urchins have no predators and take over reefs. As for the dude who got that angel shark...he's the type that would shoot fish in a barrel.

As for commercial catch - I'll agree 100%, most of it is a tragedy, devastating stocks and the environment. I'm sure you're aware of the Monterry Aquarium card on fish for eating.

Let's put the sport back in sport fishing - ban fish finders and scuba spearfishing as a start.
