I respect freedivers and have had the privilege to know several of the great ones over the years. They are the pure sportsmen who will only take what they can use. They have a disdain for those who shoot anything in sight, especially sheepshead and other easy prey.

I've seen far too many scuba morons on local boats come up with sheepshead and small calicos. There is no sport in killing a fish that you can literally pet, like a sheepshead. I've had large calico, sheepshead, and even GBSB follow me on dives. I was sickened to hear that a spearhead shot an angel shark - these are rare, gentle and beautiful creatures.

I believe that spearfishing on scuba should be banned. Maybe even lobster hunting on scuba (like in the Bahamas). Freediving evens the odds and assures that the take is reasonable.
