There is great diving in all directions from San Francisco. Diving in San Francisco area itself is a different story. Monterey would be your best bet. A bit of a drive though. Since you are a advanced diver. Check and see if any of the Monterey dive boats are going to the pinnacles that day. Since we are talking cold water here and you are not bringing your own gear. That could represent a problem.
