I've finished testing most of my SB-104 battery packs. I've got
12. I can't find one and I haven't tested the cells out of the
one I've cut open prepatory to rebuilding -- they are on the
charger now.

The best one tested 1650 mAH. It's also, if I read Nikon's lot
numbers correctly, by far the newest -- made in 2001, though not
the most recently purchased. All of the other were made in 1992.

The second best was 861 mAH. It's the one I've had the longest,
came with my first SB-104 in '93 or '94. After that there's a
bunch in the 450-600 mAH range, and two in the 200 mAH range.

The two I've been diving with (and relying on) every weekend are
626 and 265 mAH. The second one has been suspect.

I've found a source for 3800 mAH NiMH Cs cells (the right size) who
will make up spot welded packs. It's about $45 per pack, and
one pack's worth is on order. Don't toss the bad ones, you'll
need the case and conectors.

I also found someone who'd used 2000 mAH NiMH AAs and says the
Nikon charger will charge them but takes a while (I'd guess
3800/1500 times as long ;-).

So test yours and watch this space.
