If I am going on a boat where the crew knows me, but the group doesn't - I always try and remember my C card. In that circumstance, the crew would probably vouch for me, but I would consider it rude behavior on my part to forget the card. I have been required by some groups to fax a copy ahead of time when I am a stranger to them. I've been in a situation where the crew vouched for me at least once. If I'm going somewhere where no one knows me, I figure I'd better not leave home without the card. There has been a time or two, in the past, when I've forgotten the card and been turned away. I have learned that if I expect a nitrox fill, I'd better have the card no matter what.
