Consider what could be done optically

Think about what could be done optically while duping the slide or
making a print.

Color correction (filtration)
Exposure (adjust the exposure)
Contrast (pick your medium, and chemistry times)
Spotting out backscatter (india ink on the slide).
Sharpening (The digital "unsharp mask" is just sandwitching a thin,
slightly out of focus, negative with the original slide, and
extending the dupe exposure a bit because it's now a bit dark.
That's why it's called "UNSHARP MASK".)

But if you are a nature photographer, flipping that fish around
exceeds the limits.

And BTW, in advertising, WHAT you can tweak is a function of
WHAT you are advertising. Consider some food on a plate.
There are professional food stylists. They do stuff like spray
glycerine on the food to make it look shiny. That's OK if the
picture is to advertise the plate, but not if it's to advertise
the food.
