The Joys of Bureaucracy... |
Posted by Walt on September 05, 2006 at 21:30:44: In Reply to: Re: 1st annual White Point Clean Up Announcement posted by Steve Lawson on September 05, 2006 at 17:23:54: The present step after contacting various City and County offices is working through the Permits Section of the LA County Beaches and Harbort Department. They have 2 requirements: 1. contacting and obtaining approval of the LA County Lifeguards and 2. Obtaining a sponsoring organization for liability purposes (they recommended Heal the Bay). The chief of the LA County Lifeguards was very supportive and helpful - that was very encouraging. Heal the Bay, however, (once they finally respond to numerous phone calls and emails) will not sponsor an underwater activity. They will sponsor a beach clean-up if we have everyone participating sign waivers. So, its back to the permits lady for another idea.... tomorrow. There is no formal group or organization involved. Its a bunch of divers who show up, pay an entrance fee, and if they personally feel up to it, dive and do some underwater cleaning. All on a common date (9/23/06) and time (8 AM).... and in memory of Paul Meister. If the conditions aren't good, we'll scrub any diving and just have a picnic, discuss diving, and possibly have an ankle weight fashion show.
