Fist thing's first...get Vessel Assist! They are the best insurance policy you can have on the water. I had my last boat for eight years and never planned to use VA but had to three times. They are quick, professional and for the cost of taking your family to dinner and a movie you get unlimited towing.
I paid for my own repairs rather than using my insurance until the money I spent the last two years I owned the boat was more than I paid for it. I finally used my insurance for the last breakdown and they totalled the boat, gave me a check for $5000 and I broke out my beach diving shoes again. I miss being able to dive wrecks every weekend but have enjoyed diving more the past year or two than the previous fifteen. I'm sure I'll get another boat someday but my wallet sure likes beach diving now.
