Two questions I would look into-not on the internet, either.

1. What are your responsibilities for passengers, whether paying or not, aboard your vessel? CG question for sure, but potential tort question, as well.

2. Since you're not charging and not operating a business, is a waiver a good thing? Is it effective? Conversely, does it suggest that perhaps you are operating a commercial enterprise or degrade your defense otherwise? I would think a waiver is a good idea regardless, and I have signed waivers aboard private non-charter boats, but you should get qualified advice.

In short, I think you're asking the right questions, just in the wrong place.
