Conditions at Catalina Wed. 25th |

Just returned from Catalina...Here's the scoop. Leaving the harbor this morning the pungent odor of red tide filled the wheelhouse but we got out of it about 6 miles out. We arrived at Ship Rock a little before 9:00am...anchored on the west side. The water looked a bit green, Divers reported visibility from 25' to 30' shallow to around 60' deeper. (Boat Captains call it clean green...particulate and plankton in the water column making the water look green however the overall visibility is good.) Anchored up at Eagle Reef for the 2nd dive but before the divers jumped off the boat a extremely strong current came up and we were forced to try another spot. We anchored up between 4th of July cove and Cherry cove...Viz around 20' to 25'...got out of the current...Divers reported the spot as fair. |
