The small shops I see thriving have a pretty gung-ho attitude toward marketing, particularly in new business development in developing relationships with schools, companies and other potential sources of customers beyond the traditional walk-ins.
As a couple of people have touched on, if a shop is going to make it, customer service has to be king. How well have stores that have folded made their customers feel like they were given deluxe treatment?
