Pt. Lobos is small compared to the coastline. My point is that the
reserves really work. And the new system of MPAs on the Central
Coast covers about 18% of state waters, which is pretty significant,
with about 7.5% in no-take reserves.

Zipping though kelp in an outboard is really STUPID. You'll wrap
kelp around the water intakes and over heat. IF you can even zip.
Kelp wraps around the leg and slows you way down, and often stops
you.

The local marine mammals are pretty tolerant of boats. Just don't
harrass them.

Up here, the nonconsumptive divers had the point on the MLPA
process, wanting even more than the environmentalists.

Finally:
MPA = Marine Protected Area.
MLPA = Marine Life Protection Act.
